What is an x reader story?
An x reader (or reader-insert) is fanfiction written in second person, where "you" are the main character. Instead of reading about two characters, you read about yourself meeting, dating or adventuring with a character you love. Writers use Y/N ("your name") where the reader's name would go, so every reader can step into the story.
Character x Reader is one of the most popular tags on fanfiction sites and Tumblr, from fluffy one-shots and imagines to slow-burn romances and hurt/comfort.
How to write a Y/N fanfic with this generator
- Type the fandom and the character you want to be with. Any anime, book, game, show — or an original character of your own.
- Add a premise in one sentence, or leave it empty for a surprise. Think of an imagine prompt: "you get stuck in an elevator with them".
- Pick tropes and a tone, keep "Second person (reader-insert)" selected, and press the button. You get a complete scene with an AO3-style title, rating, summary and tags.
Tips for better reader-insert stories
- Describe the situation, not yourself. The generator keeps the reader open on purpose, so anyone can imagine themselves as Y/N.
- Tropes that work well for x reader: friends to lovers, forced proximity, hurt/comfort and slow burn.
- Prefer first person? Switch the point of view — the character will still be the one you picked.
- Want more than one scene? Sign in and write full chapters with credits, then press "Continue this story".
